The Lumbatik Collection
These sarongs, bags and passport holders are lovingly made locally with Malaysian batik fabric. 'Lumbatik'; is an original designed batik fabric by MareCet. The name 'Lumbatik' is derived from the combination of the words lumba-lumba (meaning dolphin in the Malay language) and batik. The batik design is inspired by the dolphin species that we study - the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin, and traditional motifs in Peninsular Malaysia where we work. Lumbatik is made in Kuala Perlis, a coastal area on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, where we study and conserve the dolphins.
The Lumbatik collection comes in four colours:
-
Sousa pink
This colour is inspired by the colour of the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins (Sousa chinensis) that we study - the dolphins are born grey and turn mottled pink or completely pink as they mature
-
Samudera blue
Samudera means ocean in the Malay language. This colour comprises the colours of the ocean - different shades of blue with a hint of green
-
Monsoon Sky
This colour is inspired by the dramatic stormy sky over the sea during monsoon season
-
Langkawi Sunset
This colour is inspired by the rich hues of red, pink and orange that gloriously paint the sky daily during sunset in the Langkawi archipelago

‘Mummy, Where’s My Dorsal Fin?’ Children’s Storybook
'MUMMY, WHERE'S MY DORSAL FIN'; follows the adventures of a little Indo-Pacific finless porpoise calf named Aluna and her mother Cheriya, as they explore their beautiful habitat around the Langkawi Archipelago, learning about its wonders, make new friends and discover the threats that will impact their future. But there is hope, as they learn about the people who try to keep their marine home clean and safe. 'MUMMY, WHERE'S MY DORSAL FIN'; is a story of discovery, learning, and hope in a changing world, with the book's title serving as a metaphor for discovery and exploration. The book is about Langkawi, was inspired in and by Langkawi, written in Langkawi, and a gift from Langkawi to the world!
